  1. Now that golfing season is underway, I have noticed my shoulder and neck hurting. In the past, I've had back problems from playing golf. Is there any treatment that will help quickly and allow me to continue playing during therapy?

Many golfers have aches and pains with some having persistant problems. Rotator cuff and impingement of the shoulder and golfer's elbow are two of the most common. Back pain is also common, even with the pros. These respond very well to treatment with the low energy laser and infrasonic and acupuncture has now been proven to be useful in conjunction with the others. It takes 6-8 treatments and you can continue playing during that time.

  2. I have arthritis of my hands and knees. I have taken anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy and even bracing, but the pain persists and I had stomach problems from the medications. I have also used chondrotin and glucosamine from the health food store but they only gave temporary relief. I have heard that your new laser can give long lasting relief without any side effects. How does it work?

The laser used at BHMC is not like the ones used in surgery...it is a low energy laser that uses the concentrated light rather than heat to have its effects. It appears to work on the cellular level to break up inflammatory cells and help repair damaged tissue. It also appears to activate the immune system to help dampen the inflammatory/pain response. Studies at BHMC so far demonstrate excellent results in all types of arthritis of the joints and spine. Treatment is available under FDA protocol.

  3. I have had back pain for several years and been told I have disc bulges and degenerative arthritis of my spine. Are there new treatments that can help?

Yes, there are several new methods available which can significantly reduce back pain, no matter how long you have had it and even if all other methods have failed. Whether a sprain, arthritis of the spine or disc problem, the methods are equally effective. We have two devices, low level energy laser and infrasonic, that work differently from most treatments because they work directly on the nerves and bad discs that cause pain as well as being able to reduce inflammation of the muscles, ligaments and discs. They also appear to heal damaged cells and a retard further deterioration of the spine. Best of all, they work very quickly. Most people notice pain reduction within 6-8 treatments and the pain relief is long lasting. There are no known long term side effects and the treatments are non-invasive and painless. Many patients may also have underlying structural problems in their spine, pelvis, hips, ribs or shoulders. These problems respond well to osteopathic mobilization techniques, usually in 3-6 sessions. In addition to the above, acupuncture is used at BHMC, either alone or in combination with the other methods, and has been very successful in reducing or eliminating back and neck pain. You should see results within 6 treatments although more may be necessary for maximum relief.

  4. I have had reflux symptoms for several years and now I've been diagnosed as having irritable bowel syndrome. I've gone through lots of tests and tried several medications but am still having recurrent symptoms. Are there any alternatives?

In fact, there are alternatives which work very well, often better than conventional approaches. Gastrointestinal problems such as reflux and irritable bowel syndrome can have many underlying causes and can be quite resistant to standard treatments and medications. These conditions are often recurrent and never seem to go away. The November 11th Journal of the AMA published a study which showed that a combination of chinese herbs were beneficial in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome. This confirms what we have found at the Balanced Healing Medical Center. We have been using individualized combinations of chinese herbs for both irritable bowel syndrome and acid reflux, and patients are having excellent responses. For some patients, acupuncture also is very effective for such gastrointestinal conditions. We have used acupuncture alone and in combination with chinese herbs and have noted long-lasting relief, often after only two or three sessions. One word of caution: studies have shown that over 25% of chinese herbs may be adulterated with drugs such as steroids and another percentage are impure, containing dirt, bugs and DDT. Be very careful where you purchase such herbs. Because of these problems, BHMC now provides patients with quality chinese herbs.

  5. I have poor circulation in my feet and have tried various methods to improve it but I still have problems. The medications have too many side effects and the stockings only help a little. Is there anything new that might help?

Yes, there are some very new methods which we are now using at the Balanced Healing Medical Center which have proven to be very effective and very fast. Poor circulation (known in medical terms as peripheral vascular disease) becomes problematic as we age but even younger people may develop it. It causes many symptoms including cold limbs, pain (at rest or when walking), and numbness and tingling. Most conventional approaches utilize surgery if larger arteries are blocked and various medications for smaller vessels. As you have found however, these medications vary in effectiveness and can have significant side effects. Jobst stockings are also frequently utilized and can help but are not curative. At Balanced Healing Medical Center, we have discovered an approach which appears to improve the circulation and decrease the symptomatology, especially pain and swelling. We use two new devices, a low level energy laser and infrasonic, which increase the peripheral circulation to improve blood flow, as well as stimulating the lymphatic system to reduce swelling. We have noted that most patients respond very quickly, usually within 6-8 sessions and the results are long lasting. There are no known side effects associated with these devices. The patients have been very pleased with the results. We have also used acupuncture, with or without the above devices, to successfully reduce symptoms of peripheral vascular disease. Usually, you should obtain initial benefits in 3-4 treatments. If you have poor circulation, it is also helpful to stop smoking and take anti-oxidants such as Vitamin E and vitamins such as B6 and folate to retard atherosclerosis. There are also many herbal combinations which are helpful as well.

  6. As I've gotten older, I seem to be getting more aches and pains as well as injuries. What can I do?

As we age, we are more likely to have more lingering aches and pains and be predisposed to injury due to our muscles and ligaments becoming stiffer and slower to heal. However, there are several things which can be done both to prevent as well as eliminate such pain. On the prevention side, a good diet ( especially more fruits and veggies) is important to supply the minerals, vitamins and anti-oxidants necessary to maintain bodily structure and strength. Even more essential however is exercise. There have been many studies done which show that proper exercise can help prevent injuries. Injury and pain may still occur however, no matter what we do. Fortunately, on the treatment side, there are now new methods for treating these problems quickly and successfully. There are two new devices, low energy laser and IST, which we have used to reduce pain and stiffness within only 6-9 treatments for a variety of medical problems. These include arthritis, degenerative spine disease of the neck or low back, sciatica, frozen shoulder, hip or knee pain, chronic foot problems and many more. And it does not matter if the problems are recent or have been present for years. Best of all, there are no side effects and the results are long lasting. In addition, the NIH has now stated that acupuncture may be effective for many pain syndromes as well as other medical problems, and we have found this to be very true. For those who are hesitant about needles, acupuncture can also be done without needles. So, just because you're older doesn't mean you have to have pain.

  7. I have had pain from arthritis and several injuries, and have tried all the usual treatments but they have not really helped. Is there anything else that can help and how can I find out about them?

There are several new methods that can reduce or eliminate pain no matter what has caused it or how long you have had it. There are two new devices, low energy laser and IST, that work much differently than standard therapy because they appear to work directly on damaged and non-functioning cells to reduce inflammation and pain as well as stimulate and accelerate the healing process. Because of this direct effect, these devices work very quickly, with most people noticing pain reduction within 6-8 treatments. There are no long term side effects and the results are long-lasting, not temporary. They have been able to reduce or eliminate pain in conditions where nothing else has helped. These devices also work well in conjunction with acupuncture, which has been recommended by the National Institutes of Health as an adjunct in low back pain, carpal tunnel, fibromyalgia, tendinitis, arthritis and many other pain syndromes.

  8. I have heard about some new devices which can alleviate pain, even if chronic. What are they and how do they work?

Two new devices, low level energy laser and IST, are now available to reduce pain when no other treatments have been effective. They work even if pain has been present for years. The devices are beneficial for any type of arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, neck or low back pain, carpal tunnel, headaches and after any type of injury. They work even if symptoms continue after surgery has been done. These devices are different from most treatments because they appear to work directly on damaged and non-functioning cells to reduce inflammation and stimulate healing and regeneration of tissue. Because of the direct effect, they work very quickly. Most people notice pain reduction within 6-8 treatments. Usually only 9-10 treatments are necessary. There are no known long term side effects. The results are very long lasting and most patients have no recurrence of pain. Acupuncture is also very effective for chronic pain from any cause. At BHMC, we often combine acupuncture with the laser, achieving faster and better results.

  9. I have an old football injury and have been told it's arthritis. Is there anything I can do to help it or prevent it from getting worse?

Yes, there are now new methods available to do both. Arthritis of the knee (most commonly osteoarthritis) is fairly common after trauma, surgery, or overuse of the knees. Unfortunately, it often worsens as you age and can cause significant interference with daily activities and recreation. However there are now two new devices (low level energy laser and IST) which have demonstrated effectiveness in reducing the swelling, pain and stiffness of arthritic knees, as well as helping to prevent further deterioration of the joint. These devices appear to work directly on the knee joint to reduce the inflammation of arthritis as well as promote cellular healing, thereby also reducing pain and swelling. These methods have worked on knees which have been arthritic for years, even when there is little to no cartilage remaining. They are non-invasive, have no side effects and the results are long-lasting. They can be effective no matter what the cause of the arthritis. Best of all, they work very quickly, with most patients responding in 6-8 treatments.

  10. I have long-standing arthritis of my hip causing me to limp. I've been told I need a hip replacement but have to wait several years. What can I do in the meantime?

Arthritis of the hip becomes more common as one ages. Hip replacement if required if bad enough, but only lasts 8-10 years, so most doctors want to delay it as long as possible. Now however, there is an alternative. There are several new devices (low level energy laser and IST) which have been found to be quite effective at reducing arthritis pain in the hip and even slowing its progression. Many patients have been able to delay surgery for years or not have it at all. These devices also can increase motion of the hip and increase strength. They can be effective no matter how long the arthritis has been present or what caused it. These methods are non-invasive and work very quickly, with most patients responding within 6-8 treatments. They appear to work by reducing the arthritic inflammation as well as healing the damaged tissue. There are no long-term side effects and the results are long lasting.

  11. I have limited motion in my left shoulder from previous surgery and now my other shoulder is getting stiff from bursitis. What can I do?

Frozen shoulders can occur as a result of injury, surgery, bursitis or arthritis. The standard treatments include physical therapy, exercises, injections, and surgery, but problems may still persist. This is because the shoulder joint is one of the most complex of the body and therefore is often the most resistant to healing. But now there are new methods which can reduce stiffness and increase motion in shoulder joints very quickly and effectively, even if the standard methods have not helped. There are two new devices which can unfreeze shoulder joints very quickly, if the cause is acute bursitis or injury. They are also effective after surgery to improve range of motion, decrease pain, and increase strength. These devices (low energy laser and IST) appear to work directly on the tissues to decrease the inflammation of arthritis or bursitis, accelerate healing of injured tissues, and increase range of motion of post-surgical joints. By doing so, any pain associated with these problems is also usually reduced or eliminated. The devices are non-invasive, have no long-term side effects and results are long-lasting. Acupuncture is also effective for resolving shoulder pain and improving and returning normal function, even ater surgery. At BHMC, we often combine acupuncture with the laser for the best results, although either one alone can help you.

  12. I have heard of some new methods that help restore function and reduce pain after surgery. What are they and what do they do?

There are now two new devices, low level energy laser and infrasonic, that appear to accelerate healing and reduce pain even years after surgery. They work directly on damaged cells to help restore function as well as reducing chronic inflammation. Many times, surgery will correct the structural problem, but patients will have scarring, continued inflammation, swelling and decreased motion. Surgery will also accelerate the arthritic process. These devices appear to reduce the inflammatory response, decrease swelling, and repairs/regenerates tissue to increase motion and strength. All areas respond very well. Joints heal the fastest, especially shoulders and knees, but also ankles and wrists. Necks and backs take a little longer to heal. Most patients respond within 6-8 treatments. Neck and back problems may require 3-4 more treatments. There are no known long term side effects and the pain reduction or elimination is long lasting, often ten years or more. Acupuncture is also beneficial for reducing or eliminating persistent problems following surgery. It usually takes 3-6 treatments to start obtaining relief and we commonly use it with the above devices for faster healing.

  13. I have had chronic back pain and arthritis for years. I have been told by various practitioners that they can help me but their treatments always end up giving me only brief relief or just don't help at all. Do you have something that really works and is long lasting?

Yes, there are several new methods that really reduce pain and give long lasting relief and which are also non-invasive. Certainly, any doctor or chiropractor who treats pain wants you to believe that their methods can help. But whether it involves medications, injections, surgery or manipulation, often the pain returns and their treatments must be repeated again many times, with no long-lasting relief. At Balanced Healing Medical Center, most of our patients achieve significant reduction in their pain and rarely have to return after the initial treatments. This occurs no matter how long the pain has been present or what has caused the pain. Even if you have continued pain after surgery and your doctor says there is nothing else that can be done, our methods have still been able to reduce or even eliminate the pain. Sounds too good to be true? We don't want to give false hope, so we do have the statistics to back our success. We have now treated several thousand patients with these methods and the vast majority have received benefit. Best of all, it usually only takes 6-9 treatments to be effective. How can we help reduce pain when other methods have not worked? We use research and alternative methods that often work better for chronic conditions than conventional approaches. These methods treat the cause, not just the symptoms. We are the only clinic in Oklahoma that uses two new devices, low energy laser and infrasonic, that appear to work directly to heal damaged or non-functioning tissue and reduce chronic inflammation and stiffness. Because of this "direct" action, the tissues heal much faster and the results are long-lasting. In addition, we use osteopathic mobilization for structural problems (better than chiropractic) and acupuncture, either alone or with the other methods. By combining these methods, we get results that others cannot dream of achieving. Some of the conditions we have successfully treated include arthritis (all types), neck or back pain, bursitis, tendinitis, ligament or muscle damage, bulging discs, degenerative spine disease, carpal tunnel, TMJ, foot problems, headaches and joint dysfunction (especially shoulder or knee), just to name a few.

  14. I have carpal tunnel syndrome and have already tried physical therapy, stretching exercises, injections and anti-inflammatory medications. I have heard that surgery is only successful in a minority of patients and would like to avoid it. Is there anything else?

Yes, there is. Carpal tunnel syndrome is very resistant to most conventional treatments and even if surgery helps, the symptoms may return within a year. Sometimes the surgery can make your symptoms worse, so if you can avoid it, you should. There is a better option now available however. A new low energy laser (non-surgical) has been developed specifically to treat carpal tunnel syndrome. Acupuncture has also been supported by the National Institutes of Health for carpal tunnel treatment. The laser and acupuncture together work the best and usually relieve symptoms within 9 treatments. Even better, the results are long lasting. Carpal tunnel responds the best if treated early, but we have used acupuncture and the laser even on patients who have had non-successful surgery and still been able to relieve their symptoms. These devices work just as well on other repetitve stress injuries as well, such as elbow, foot and shoulder problems.

  15. I have heard about some new methods for arthritis relief that are very effective. What are they?

Two new devices, low level energy laser and infrasonic, are now available which appear to effectively reduce the pain and swelling of arthritis, no matter how long you have had it. These methods can be beneficial for any type of arthritis or degenerative changes, whether in the neck, back, hips, shoulders, knees, fingers or other joints. They even can help arthritis caused by injuries, even if occurring years ago. These devices are different from other treatments because they appear to work directly on arthritic areas to reduce inflammation and heal damaged tissue. Because of the direct effect, they work very quickly; most people notice pain and swelling reduction within 6-8 treatments. There are no drugs or injections necessary. There are no known long term side effects and the results are very long lasting.

  16. I have chronic back pain and my wife has arthritis of several joints. We have tried injections, medications, physical therapy and surgery, but still have pain. Is there anything else that can be done.

Yes, there are many other methods which can successfully reduce pain and heal injuries, even if no conventional treatments have worked. There are Alternative Medicine approaches which have now been proven by research to be effective as well as safe. These therapies have also appear to be beneficial for all types of arthritis. These methods include the use of two new devices, the low level energy laser and infrasonic, which have now been used in this clinic on over 10,000 patients, with significant results. These devices can be used with alternative methods such as acupuncture, which has been recommended by the National Institutes of Health as an adjunct to other methods for many pain syndromes, including low back, carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, headaches, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. There are additional alternative approaches which may also help, such as manual therapy (osteopathic mobilization), biomagnetics, topical pain relievers and various supplements and herbs (American, European and Chinese). Although conventional approaches can be effective, many times they simply do not help. At BHMC, we utilize both conventional approaches and alternative methods to find the most effective treatment for each individual. Such combinations are useful in both recent and old injuries/pain syndromes. In acute problems, healing is accelerated by the above methods and thus pain is reduced more quickly. In chronic problems, such as arthritis, these approaches appear to revitalize injured tissue, reduce scarring, decrease inflammation, and desensitize damaged nerves. All these methods have no long-term side effects and give long-lasting or permanent relief. They also work fast: most patients notice reduction in pain, swelling and/or stiffness within the first 4-6 sessions. So, even if conventional methods haven't worked, there is still hope.

  17. I have terrible sinus allergies. Are there new methods besides medication, inhalers and shots?

Yes. We have used acupuncture with Chinese herbal formulas quite successfully in reducing or even eliminating allergies. Most of our allergy patients have been able to reduce or discontinue all their medications and allergy shots as well. Acupuncture usually takes 3-4 treatments to start obtaining relief, but it may take several more treatments for maximum benefit. We use Chinese herbs as an adjunct to acupuncture, since it helps it work faster. The best thing is that the results are long lasting. Most of our patients do not have to return for additional treatments, although occsionally patients may need some extra sessions every year or so. For more information, see our testimonial on allergies.

  18. I have a rash on my thumb. What should I do?

Soak it in epsom salt for 30 minutes a day until the rash is gone.
